Our Women’s First Team are away in Germany for another, and an important, pre-season test.

The Bianconere take on German champions Bayern Munich on Tuesday, 20 August (18:00 CEST), and Coach Massimiliano Canzi has given his thoughts on the game, as well as the recent successful US Tour.

THE WOMEN'S CUP EXPERIENCE IN THE USA

“It was important for us, we’re a new team and going through an experience like that is fundamental for the group to come together. We played against good teams, teams in the middle of their seasons, and if we’d taken those games lightly we would have looked bad, but the girls did very well. It was also a nice opportunity to take on non-European teams and it allowed us to measure up against international opposition. We were happy that our opponents were surprised that we’d only been working together for a couple of weeks.”

HOW IS THE PREPARATION GOING?

“We’re getting closer to where we want to be - there are only 10 days until the Serie A season begins, and we’re at a good stage but we’ll only be at our best once the season starts. If you want to have a great year, you can’t afford to peak at the very start. We’re working a lot on what we do without the ball, and the girls are doing well with something that’s new for them. We’re obviously working on attacking plays as well.”

FOCUS ON BAYERN, AND THEN FREEDOM

“Now we have two more games before the season, with Bayern first up. They’re a great team, they’re German champions, and it will be a difficult match, which is always nice. I expect to see us continue our commitment and application against them, because it’s a match - as is the game against Freedom - that allows the girls to show their best and what they can bring. It will be tough to choose a starting XI this season because we have so many top players and big matches, but we have at least 17 or 18 players who are considered starters.”

WORKING WITH THE CLUB

“In the last few weeks we’ve had visits from the CEO and the President, which are important things for us. It shows us that the club cares about us, and that they’re seriously interested in the Women’s teams. We’re grateful for their visits, and it’s a nice way to start the season.”
