Despite dominating possession throughout, Juventus were made to settle for a point as a spirited Cesena outfit came from behind to draw 2-2 with the reigning champions in Emilia-Romagna on Sunday evening.
At the start of play, the Old Lady knew that a 17th Serie A success of the season would have taken them nine points clear of Roma at the summit but they initially went behind to Milan Djuric’s finish on 17 minutes. It was only their fifth goal conceded on the road this term.
However, two strikes in the space of six first-half minutes saw Alvaro Morata equalise with his sixth of the 2014/15 campaign before Claudio Marchisio netted for the first time since September to put Juventus 2-1 in front at the break.
The hosts upped the ante following the interval and made their pressure tell when they pegged the Bianconeri back through Franco Brienza’s sweetly struck effort with 20 minutes remaining.
Regardless of the draw, the reigning champions will see it as another point towards their title tilt as they stretched their unbeaten run in the league to 14 outings.
Here’s a closer look at the main statistics from Sunday evening:
Four
Interceptions made by both Leonardo Bonucci and Patrice Evra. The Frenchman also teased eight crosses throughout the course of the encounter.
Five
Tackles won by Marchisio during a typically combative display from Il Principino.
61.8%
Possession dictated by the visitors who also registered a passing success rate of 82.3%.
72
Successful passes completed by Andrea Pirlo, with the Maestro also threading 17 good long balls and performing 12 recoveries.
103
Total touches enjoyed by Stephan Lichtsteiner, more than anyone else in a blue jersey.
