A second late winner in the space of seven days earned the Primavera another triumph over a Ligurian team, Genoa the latest victims of the never say die attitude displayed by Fabio Grosso’s side.
After Mattia Vitale struck a last-gasp winner over Virtus Entella last week, Luca Clemenza was the hero this time around, converting a 75th-minute penalty to maintain his status as the team’s top scorer with eight goals.
The result sees the Bianconeri strengthen their grip on fourth position in the league and Grosso sees no reason why his youngsters shouldn’t harbour ambitions of pushing on for a grandstand finish to the campaign.
Speaking after the game, the Primavera boss said: “Defensively we’re looking really sound and haven’t conceded a goal in the last two games. The work we carry out during the week is really starting to produce the goods on the pitch.
“I’m happy, we deserve this victory and I’m convinced that if we find greater consistency in our play we can aim for higher positions in the league.”
Next Sunday brings an away trip to Pro Vercelli, where proceedings get underway from 15.30 CET.
