From the moment Douglas Costa stepped on the pitch, just before half-time, it didn’t take him long to make an impact. It was one minute and 21 seconds to be exact, from when he entered the match to when he provided the assist on Mario Mandzukic’s opening goal en route to a stunning three-assist night.
“I’m very happy, it was one of my best games since I’ve arrived,” said Costa. “I hope to continue like this and keep providing assists that win matches.”
Costa is the first substitute to notch three assists in a Serie A match since at least 2004/05, the year OPTA started collecting data.
“We all played a great match, not just myself. I’m very happy to help my teammates. We have to continue to play this well to achieve our goals because the league isn’t over yet. However, we played united tonight which is what we needed after Madrid.”
