Massimiliano Allegri insisted points take priority over the performance after Juve were made to sweat for all three by Empoli on Saturday night.

The Bianconeri found themselves a goal down at half time before a Cristiano Ronaldo double restored order after the restart.

“When you win 12 out of 13 games a bit of fatigue can start to set in,” Allegri explained.

“We started off well enough but then we slowed down a bit and got caught on the counter a few times.

“They have a centre forward and other players who can really hurt you with their direct running. If you're not alert on the second balls they break forward at pace.

“We fared better in the second half, partly because they dropped off physically.

“This was a game we had to win, regardless of the performance, but Empoli deserve credit for the way they play.”

The boss allayed any fears about Giorgio Chiellini's injury after the veteran was forced to withdraw shortly before kick-off.

“It was nothing serious and [Daniele] Rugani did well. I have lots of good defenders so I'm able to rotate them.”

Allegri then praised Paulo Dybala's contribution before commenting on Ronaldo's sensational second goal.

“Paulo played well, especially in the second half. He's a fabulous player and he tends to grow into games. He's got great stamina and when he finds a bit of space he really comes into his own.

“Cristiano's goal is the sort of thing you show kids and get them to try and copy.”
