Cristiano Ronaldo was the star of the show as his second-half brace enabled Juventus to overturn Empoli's goal advantage and get back to winning ways in Serie A following an impressive midweek win at Manchester United.
“This was a big week for us,” the Portuguese acknowledged after the final whistle at the Stadio Castellani. "We were tired after the game in Manchester and we knew it would be tricky tonight – the boss had stressed the point too.
“We responded well after going behind. We created more openings and had more shots in the second half. We deserved to win.
"After an excellent performance in Manchester we've shown we're a top team. It's been a great week."
While his first of the night was a par-for-the-course penalty, his second was the sort of jaw-dropping strike we've come to expect from the Portuguese superstar.
“I haven't had the chance to see a replay of my goal yet. It happened very quickly. I felt confident and hit it and it turned out to be a great goal.”
