Fiorentina kicked off their away campaign back on the opening day in August, ultimately succumbing 2-0 to Rudi Garcia’s Roma at the Stadio Olimpico.
The following month saw the Viola take four points from a possible six, as they first defeated Atalanta 1-0 in Bergamo and then registered a 1-1 stalemate with Torino thanks to Kouma Babacar's late strike.
October’s sole action for Vincenzo Montella’s troops was yet another 1-1 draw, this time at Milan, with Josip Ilicic cancelling out Nigel de Jong’s earlier goal midway through the second period at the San Siro.
Fiorentina’s subsequent encounter proved to be a disappointing 3-1 reverse at the hands of Sampdoria in Liguria, before two victories against Verona (2-1) and Cagliari (4-0) throughout November saw them bring their winless run to an end.
Cesena were next to feel the wrath of the Viola’s new attacking prowess, Borja Valero, Stefan Savic, Gonzalo Rodriguez and Mounir Hamdaoui netting in a 4-1 triumph that closed 2014 out in some style.
But Montella’s men were brought straight back down to earth in the opening match of the new year, after basement boys Parma recorded a shock 1-0 success at the Stadio Ennio Tardini.
It was soon back to winning ways courtesy of a narrow 2-1 triumph away at Chievo, decided by Babacar’s last-gasp finish, with Genoa then holding the Viola to a 1-1 draw at the culmination of January.
Senegalese striker Babacar's goal tally soon grew even more when he fired in a brace to make it an unhappy Valentine’s Day for Sassuolo during a 3-1 Viola triumph.
March began with a hard-fought 1-0 success against Inter at the San Siro, only for all the good work to be undone in the following match-up, as Miroslav Klose’s double inspired Lazio to a 4-0 scoreline over a sorry Fiorentina.
German striker Mario Gomez then bagged his first goals away from the Artemio Franchi during an entertaining 2-2 stalemate with Udinese before Napoli registered a comfortable 3-0 triumph versus the Viola just over two weeks ago.
Entering the game on the back of three straight Serie A defeats, Montella, who guided his outfit to a 2-1 Coppa Italia semi-final first leg victory against the Bianconeri in Turin earlier this year, will be hoping his players can pull off a similar result when the two teams lock horns at Juventus Stadium on Wednesday evening.
