It was another dominant display by the Azzurre in the FIFA Women’s World Cup. From the first minute, a total of five Bianconere took to the field in Montpellier against China, as they went on to claim a 2-0 victory.
Giuliani once again started in goal, with Gama marshalling the defence, as they oversaw a second clean sheet for Italy in the tournament. Cernoia started in the midfield, while Girelli and Bonansea lead a three-pong attack alongside Giacinti.
Giacinti opened the scoring in the 15th minute for Italy. Galli was then introduced into the fray after the break, and she made an immediate impact as she scored yet another beauty in the 49th minute. Martina Rosucci also came on as a substitute, and her entrance into the field meant all eight of Juventus Women’s players had featured at least once in the FIFA Women’s World Cup. Boattin was an unused sub.
Italy will continue their World Cup aspirations when they take on Netherlands in the quarter-finals of the tournament on Saturday, 29 June.
