Genoa boss Gian Piero Gasperini says the opportunity to become the first team to do the double over Juventus this season will make his men fully motivated to pull out all the stops when they travel to Turin tomorrow afternoon.
The Rossoblu have been the only side to claim a Serie A win over the reigning champions this term and Gasperini says he will be using October’s achievement to inspire his men at Juventus Stadium.
Previewing tomorrow’s encounter with the media, the former Bianconeri academy coach said: “If we beat Juventus it will be a record. Nobody has overcome them twice this season. I’m expecting a little extra from each of my players. I want to see a focused, alert side put in a great performance.”
Gasperini was quick to lavish praise on the Old Lady for Wednesday’s Champions League exploits in Dortmund, believing Massimliano Allegri’s men to have been good value for their win over Borussia.
And he says he is bracing himself for another decent display tomorrow, rejecting any suggestions that the hosts may drop their guard when they return to Serie A duties.
“I enjoyed watching Juventus in the Champions League, they really are a great side. But we know we won’t find them resting on their laurels, they have players used to playing at a high level. We’ll see the usual strong Juventus team tomorrow.”
