Juventus icon Giorgio Chiellini took the floor before a group of former sports stars this afternoon during Randstad Next at Allianz Stadium.
The event, organised by Randstad Italia, was presented by Juventus’ Head of Human Resources, Sergio Spinelli, and also featured General Manager Sport, Giuseppe Marotta. Giorgio Chiellini was the guest of honour, as he fielded questions from journalist Alessandro Antinelli.
The defender told the audience about his studies in higher education, described his current working life and even looked ahead to a potential future career.
“I come from a family where education has always been highly valued,” explained Chiellini. “Ever since I was young, I’ve always tried to keep studying whilst playing football. Then, once I was an adult, I was keen to take that further and study for a degree.”
Giorgio is one of Juventus’ main stars but he already has one eye on the future.
“I believe that my university education will provide me with the foundation to move into a new profession once I’ve ended my playing career. I’m well aware that I’ll need to harness the same humility and tenacity I have developed during my football career, as I will have to start from scratch. Who knows, I might even be able to do a job which allows me to spend more time with my family.”
Giorgio also stressed the importance of team spirit as one of the attributes he has taken from football.
“Being part of a team helps you. It broadens your horizons and also allows you to grow as a person.”
The Randstad Next programme, which was unveiled earlier today, is aimed at former sports professionals who have to adapt and embark on a new profession after ending their playing careers. The scheme features several months of training before the individuals develop a working project which allows them to get to grips with the labour market and determine which of their skills will allow them to move into a new field.
