Primavera coach Fabio Grosso says he is backing his youngsters to overturn last Sunday’s 2-0 Coppa Italia semi-final first leg reverse against Lazio and go one step further to writing their names in club history by reaching the final hurdle.

The 37-year-old coach admits he was frustrated to walk away from the capital empty-handed last weekend but insists he has no qualms with the overall display shown by his players.

Instead, he is calling for another fearless showing when the teams renew hostilities on Saturday afternoon, claiming a similar performance on home soil would give Juventus every chance of turning the tables on their Biancocelesti counterparts.

Speaking to Jtv earlier today, Grosso said: “We certainly didn’t deserve the result we ended up with, but we can take plenty of heart from the performance we put in.

“We’re convinced that if we all give 120% we’ll be able to keep the dream alive and try to get through. Unfortunately we were punished by the result, but one of the beauties of football is that it often produces the unthinkable.

“The attitude, courage and desire to boss proceedings in the capital – qualities I always try and ask of my team – bode well for Saturday. We know we’ve got a difficult road ahead of us, but I think we’re starting to see some positive things out on the pitch and am sure we’ll be in for a strong finish to the campaign.

“We’re one step away from playing in a cup final, and even in the academy it means making a mark in the club’s history. It’s important the players are aware of this, and on Saturday we’ll aim to show that we’re capable of getting the job done.”
