Gonzalo Higuain was on target in both the first and second half for the Bianconeri at the San Siro on Saturday night as Juventus capped a busy week with a comprehensive 2-0 win over Milan.
A tense first half saw Higuain cap-off some fine Bianconeri passing to give Juve a 1-0 half-time lead. Pipita added to his tally in the second half, unleashing a rocket into the Milan goal to get his second of the game and condemn the hosts to a 2-0 defeat while going over the century mark in Serie A goals.
The first-half between the two sides proved to be a well-matched contest, with both sides creating chances and looking dangerous at times. However, it was the Bianconeri who broke the deadlock in the 23rd minute.
Gonzalo Higuain capped off a great team move after taking a touch on a pass into the box from Paulo Dybala first-time and past Gianluigi Donnarumma in the Milan goal. It was Pipita’s 100th goal in Serie A and a fantastic way to give the Bianconeri the lead in the San Siro.
AC Milan attempted to get themselves back into the match, and seconds before the half-time whistle they nearly found a way through when Nikola Kalinic hit the crossbar. It could have been worse for La Vecchia Signora, had Gianluigi Buffon not been instinctive enough to quickly block the shot from the Croatian forward and Daniele Rugani there to clean up the rebound opportunity.
The second half began with the hosts very much on the front foot, desperately trying to claw their way back into the match. However, La Vecchia Signora doubled their lead on the break.
Kwadwo Asamoah went on a great run down the left-hand side and his pass into Dybala was dummied by La Joya to end up at the feet of Higauin. Pipita moved on the ball to his right and unleashed a fearsome strike at goal, that again gave Donnarumma no chance and put the Bianconeri 2-0 up.
Milan attempted to rally, but the Bianconeri held firm and managed out the rest of the game comfortably, to record an impressive victory at the San Siro. It caps a week that sees Massimiliano Allegri’s side earn nine points over three matches in seven days, at least temporarily moving back to the top of Serie A on goal difference depending on Sunday’s results from Napoli and Inter.
Up next for Juve is a resumption of their Champions League commitments, as they travel to Lisbon to take on Sporting CP, knowing that a win will all but qualify them for the last 16.
