It was all even at the Stadio Paolo Mazza as Juventus and SPAL played to a 0-0 draw in Ferrara.
The Bianconeri would outshoot SPAL 6-0 and hold the majority of possession but couldn’t find the breakthrough in the final match before the international break.
Playing in Ferrara for the first time in nearly 50 years, the home side started out stronger putting Juve under pressure from the opening whistle. However, Juve nearly opened the scoring in their first attack of the match.
Douglas Costa’s mazy run through midfield created space that Alex Sandro ran into with Costa playing through his Brazilian compatriot. Sandro’s shot from about eight yards out, however, would be deflected inches wide for a corner.
Paulo Dybala would go close in the 17th minute teeing up a long-range curled effort that would go a few yards wide of goal while La Joya would also send a free kick inches over the bar seconds before the half-time whistle.
In the second half, Juventus would push for the opener with Douglas Costa denied by Alex Meret in the 50th minute while Dybala would fire just wide in the 55th minute. Through the second half, Juve would find it very tough to discover any space against a SPAL side defending with full resolution.
A few free kick opportunities would come to nothing for the Bianconeri late in the match and Massimiliano Allegri’s side would settle for a 0-0 draw. The result ends Juve’s 12-match winning streak in Serie A, though the Bianconeri equal their own Serie A record with a tenth-straight clean sheet.
The draw moves Juventus five points ahead of Napoli at the top of the Serie A table with the Partenopei facing Genoa on Sunday. Now it’s off to the international break for the Bianconeri who will return to the pitch in a fortnight on March 31st against AC Milan at Allianz Stadium.
