It was a memorable afternoon for midfielder Fabio Miretti, who was involved in Italy U21’s European Championship qualifier against Turkey, where he lined up against club teammate Kenan Yildiz. The Juventus number 20 found space in the box to slot home in first-half injury time to net his side’s opener in their 2-0 victory, the three points leaving the Azzurrini in third place after two matches in their qualifying group, two points behind leaders Norway and Ireland.
The senior Italian national team were also victorious on Tuesday evening, when they faced off against Ukraine in their EURO 2024 qualifier. A Davide Frattesi double helped the Azzurri to an important 2-1 victory at San Siro, with Manuel Locatelli featuring for the full 90 minutes as his side leapfrogged their opponents into second place in Group C.
Danilo’s Brazil made it two World Cup qualifying victories from two matches as they earned a narrow 1-0 victory over Peru, Marquinhos striking late in the match to earn the Selecao all three points. Danilo started the match for his country before coming off with five minutes left on the clock.
There were mixed results for the Bianconeri involved in international friendly action: Adrien Rabiot played 78 minutes as France went down 2-1 to Germany, while Weston McKennie and Timothy Weah both started in the USA’s 4-0 friendly victory over Oman.
