Lazio manager Simone Inzaghi has stressed that his side will need to put in a ‘special’ performance on Wednesday evening if they are to cause Juventus to drop points for what would be just the second time in 24 league matches.
“We go to Turin looking to impose our own game,” began the 40-year-old, who took over the Roman club’s reins less than two weeks ago.
“Whoever plays will without doubt be up to the task. Our approach will not change and we’ll also use the same formation.
“We know that we’ll need to produce something very special on the night, but this team has already shown that they can deliver on the big occasion.”
Inzaghi has enjoyed a perfect start to life as Lazio first-team coach. Upon being promoted from the club’s Primavera dugout, the former Biancocelesti forward has won his opening two fixtures against Palermo (3-0) and Empoli (2-0) and he admitted that he was so far satisfied with his charges’ efforts.
“From the very beginning, I’ve found a highly motivated group of players and we’ve prepared the last two fixtures in the best possible way. We’ve scored five goals, but we might have netted even more.
“I’ve asked a lot from the boys and they’ve responded excellently so far. We just need to keep giving our all and taking each game at a time.”
Ruling out the involvements of Antonio Candreva, Milan Bisevac and Alessandro Matri through injury, Inzaghi confirmed that he would have greater options in the centre of midfield with Danilo Cataldi and Sergej Milinkovic-Savic both available. The Biancocelesti boss also revealed his team would be adopting a direct attacking approach on the evening.
“We need to look to play penetrative passes forward as soon as we regain possession. We’ll need to put in a top performance and, of course, it will help if Juve aren’t at their best.”
