Juventus take to the field again after the international break on Sunday 16 October 2022. The 14:30 CEST kick-off is an important test for the Bianconere ahead of their debut in the Champions League group stages.

Opponents Sampdoria, after a brilliant start to their league campaign with three wins out of three, are coming off the back of two defeats.

Juve have a two-point advantage over the Blucerchiate and in Genoa aim to put on a similar performance to last year's, the only precedent between the two teams.

THE LINE-UP

It was Matchday 8 of Serie A 2021/22 and the match at Bogliasco saw Joe Montemurro field the following line-up.

Peyraud-Magnin in goal. In defence, Hyyrynen, Gama, Lenzini and Nilden. In midfield, Cernoia, Zamanian and Caruso. And in attack, Bonfantini, Staskova and Hurtig.

NO WAY THROUGH

Sampdoria came into the match boosted by a run of three games without conceding a goal. The first half confirmed the solidity of the Genoa side's defence.

Although not lacking the chances, the Bianconere could not find a way through. Andrea Staskova had the clearest opportunity when just after the half-hour mark, her shot clipped the post.

ARIANNA STEPS UP

In the second half it was Arianna Caruso who emerged as the most dangerous player on the park. The midfielder showed her attacking side but spurned two promising opportunities - first, a free kick destined for the top corner went just wide, then she came close with an overhead kick.

The goal was on its way...it was just a matter of time.

THE DECISIVE MOVE

The Sampdoria defence had a weak point and Juventus finally found it.

Amanda Nildén and Valentina Cernoia exchanged passes before the Italy international unleashed a diagonal shot, which got the better of the Sampdoria keeper Babb, who had been faultless until then.

VALENTINA'S SPECIAL DAY

Valentina's goal was worth all three points and capped off a special day after she had taken over the captain's armband following Sara Gama's exit.

It confirmed a brilliant start to the season for the midfielder, with her fourth goal in the league to add to the goal that had wrapped up the win at Servette on their Champions League group stage debut the previous month.
