Juventus kick started the new year in fine fashion when they claimed a 4-1 win over Udinese at Allianz Stadium on Sunday evening. Cristiano Ronaldo scored a brace, while Chiesa and Dybala also got on the scoresheet in a win which saw the Bianconeri dominate.
DE PAUL GOAL RULED OUT
With the first game of the New Year underway, the Bianconeri came out looking to make an immediate impression and they nearly grabbed the lead in the seventh minute: Chiesa crossed the ball towards Ramsey at the near post, and as he tried to put it in, Musso pushed it out. Udinese then thought they had taken the lead in the 10th minute when Lasagna pulled the ball back from the byline to De Paul, who finished from close range, but it was ruled out by VAR due to a hand ball in the build-up.
RONALDO PUTS JUVE IN THE LEAD
Juventus were dominating possession, and they did grab the lead through Ronaldo on the half hour when he flashed a powerful effort past Musso. Udinese nearly equalised immediately after, when they went on the counter, Walace had his shot charged down before seeing Lasagna shoot straight at Szczesny. Ramsey had his powerful chance palmed away, as the half ended 1-0 in favour of Juventus.
CHIESA STRIKES, RAMSEY GOAL DISALLOWED
Juventus started the second innings started in a brilliant manner: Ronaldo sent the ball forward towards Chiesa, who brilliantly controlled it, sprinted into the box and fired a left-footed finish into the net in the 49th minute. Three minutes later, Ramsey thought he had added a third goal when he burst into the box and fired towards goal, Musso made the initial save but he got back up and fired it in. However, upon checking with VAR, it was ruled out for a handball on the Welshman. Udinese saw Stryger-Larsen’s header rattled the woodwork, as Ronaldo went on to make it 3-0.
RONALDO BRACE
Samir’s pass was intercepted in midfield, Bentancur threaded it through to Ronaldo, who burst up field and into the box before putting it past Musso – he never misses those! Pirlo then opted for a double change by bringing on Bernardeschi and Kulusevski in place of Chiesa and Ramsey, while Udinese rattled the woodwork once again through Walace.
TWO LATE GOALS: ZEEGELAAR & DYBALA
That wouldn’t be the final goal of the game, as two more arrived: one for each side. The visitors did manage to get on the scoresheet in the 90th minute, however, as Zeegelaar pounced on an initial save made by Szczesny. Dybala would then have the final celebration of the match when he chipped a through ball over the on rushing Musso to make it 4-1 and seal the win!
