JUVE BANG ON THE DOOR, BUT NO BREAKTHROUGH
Nineteen shots to Inter’s six. Eight on target to Inter’s one. Juventus prevented the Nerazzurri from having a single effort on goal in the first half and limited the league’s most dangerous team from wide areas to only seven crosses, whilst whipping in 19 of their own.
Mario Mandzukic struck the crossbar and Samir Handanovic was forced into eight saves across the 90 minutes in which the Bianconeri kept knocking on the door, but just could not find the breakthrough.
FIFTH CONSECUTIVE CLEAN SHEET
Perhaps the biggest positive of the night was the fact that the Bianconeri extended their streak of shutouts to an impressive five across all competitions (four in Serie A and one in the Champions League).
CHIELLINI JOINS 450 CLUB
Another special career milestone was met by Giorgio Chiellini last night, as the defender made his 450th Juventus appearance.
After entering the club’s all-time list of 10 longest-serving players in October, King Kong now sits in eighth place, level with Sandro Salvadore.
SCORING STREAK STOPPED
Last weekend in Naples, Juventus had set a Serie A record for 44 consecutive matches on the scoresheet, but that extraordinary sequence has now come to an end.
Last night’s result also brought closure to the Bianconeri’s goalscoring run of 45 matches at home (almost two and a half years).
BOLOGNA UP NEXT
Massimiliano Allegri’s men will be keen to return to winning ways next weekend, with Bologna the opposition at the Stadio Renato Dall’Ara (kick-off scheduled for Sunday at 15.00 CET).
The Bianconeri have fond memories of the fixture from last season – the very last league match of 2016/17 – coming from behind to win 2-1 in the final minute: the perfect end to a legendary campaign.
