29 January 2023
Juventus Women orchestrated the perfect afternoon by putting five unanswered goals past Sampdoria to keep on the tails of league leaders Roma with three matches of the first phase remaining.
The result was never in doubt as a determined Bianconere display saw them pick up their first home win of 2023 and back-to-back clean sheets following their midweek Coppa Italia victory against Chievo.
Cristiana Girelli was the star of the show with a trio of goals – taking her tally to 98 in all competitions for Juve – and there was a maiden Serie A appearance for Paulina Nystrom when she replaced Sofia Cantore in the second half.
LIGHTING START!
The Bianconere couldn't have hoped for a better start as they found themselves in front with just two minutes on the clock, Girelli the quickest to react after Kirvil Odden had parried Lineth Beerenesteyn's shot.
Juventus soon took control of proceedings and went close to doubling their advantage through Lisa Boattin, whose free kick was well saved by the Samp keeper, before Arianna Caruso sent an effort just wide.
CANTORE DELIGHTS
Instead it was Sofia Cantore who made it two soon after with a gorgeous dinked finish from the edge of the box.
Sofie Pedersen then saw her curling effort come back off the woodwork and Boattin fizzed a fine shot just over as Juve ended the half in the ascendancy.
GIRELLI UNSTOPPABLE
The visitors came back out after the break with the bit between their teeth and looked to be gaining a foothold on the game, but any hopes of a comeback were crushed as Montemurro's side fired in three further goals between the 55th and 65th minutes.
Girelli continued her purple patch when she headed in her second of the day from Sara Gama's cross. Caruso then smashed goal number four past Odden before the Doria shotstopper gifted Girelli her hat-trick midway through the half.
The game understandably fell flat after that, with little to report except a fine save by Roberta Aprile from Samp substitute Giada Lopez and Nystrom making her Bianconere bow.
As the final whistle blew, the Bianconere celebrated a comfortable victory and will now turn their attentions to next week's home match against AC Milan.
