Top of the table with a Viareggio Cup already in the bag before tonight’s Coppa Italia final first-leg against Inter, the excellent results recorded by Juventus’ Primavera during the 2015/16 season are plain to see.
In the build-up to their eagerly awaited clash with the Nerazzurri at Juventus Stadium, club CEO Giuseppe Marotta was keen to stress how the Bianconeri intended to ensure the continual development of homegrown talent, whilst also keeping close tabs on the progress of players out on loan.
In an interview with Jtv, he began: “Juventus has a proud history and continues to thrive in the present day in no small part thanks to the state-of-the-art training facilities at the disposal of all players and staff, both of the first-team and youth sides.
“This year we have more than 70 loanees both in Italy and overseas. We’ve a system in place, run by Federico Cherubini, which works very well in terms of maintaining strong ties with these players in the hope that one day some of them might wear the black and white of Juventus.
“This remains our objective despite the lack of a second squad, which would guarantee our young players the possibility of gaining experience in a slightly more competitive environment than that of the Primavera, but less pressured than that of the first-team.
“Looking at the benefits enjoyed in other countries where second squads exist serves to convince me further of just how indispensable they are and I hereby hope that the Italian football authorities acknowledge this too.”
