Alessandro Matri was all smiles after marking his return to Juventus with a crucial opener in this evening’s 3-0 win over Fiorentina at the Artemio Franchi.
The striker, who was a late replacement for the injured Carlos Tevez, hailed a “perfect night” before playing down suggestions of a lack of respect after celebrating in front of his former employers.
Speaking to the media in Florence, Matri began: “It was the perfect night. I’m happy with my goal and for the fact that we’ll be playing an important final. I knew I’d be involved this afternoon and when I get the opportunity to play I look to give the manager a selection headache.
“I spent a long time not celebrating last year. I don’t think it was a lack of respect. A goal is a goal, and only a striker understands the importance of finding the back of the net.”
