Moving past the Italian Super Cup celebrations, Juventus Women’s attention immediately turns to the next Serie A fixture, which sees them face another trying test. AC Milan are next up on the calendar for the Bianconere, with the Rossonere visiting Biella on Saturday, January 13.

To look ahead to the game, coach Joe Montemurro sat to speak to Juventus TV, and he also took the time to reflect on the recent Super Cup win over Roma, as well as the achievement of being placed eighth in UEFA’s recent rankings.

On the Super Cup and the work done

“I’d say that the week after winning the Super Cup is a good one, to keep all of the emotions in check, and then I’m happy for everybody because we’ve worked well and we continue to work well, and the result in the Super Cup was the result of the good work done by the girls and by the staff.”

The keys behind the Super Cup win

“The key to brining the Cup home was the attitude; the attitude of concentration, of growth, of being a group and of understanding the different moments of the match. There were moments of suffering of course, but there were also moments of dominating the game, and you need this when you play against good sides, and of course this gives you that awareness of being a group. This is a group with talent, one that puts in the work, and it has all of the keys needed to bring home a result from any game, and sometimes you need this mentality of belief and courage.”

The condition of the squad

“Physically we’re in pretty good shape, I can’t say after the celebrations on Sunday where the girls went, and I’m not going to ask them, but we’ve worked well in the days since and we’ll continue to work well ahead of what is an important game for our season.”

On the UEFA ranking

“Being ranked eighth is important for us, and it’s something we’ve been aiming towards since we started our journey here,” Montemurro said. “Being ranked alongside European football’s biggest clubs is fundamental for us, and having achieved this in such a short time shows that we’re doing good work.”

Looking ahead to Milan

“Now, with the growth of women’s football, all of the games we play are big matches, even against the sides that you expect to beat. There aren’t games that you can switch off for, and they’re all important games. Milan are a good side with important players, and of course they’re trying to pick up as many points as possible.

“It’s a very interesting week, of course for our Super Cup win and now we know the importance of getting back on track in Serie A.”

What do you want this weekend?

“I’ll be happy if we play our game, in our style, and of course take home the points, we can’t slip.”
