Dusan Vlahovic is back to his scoring ways for Serbia after a long two-year drought - since March 2023 against Montenegro in the qualifiers for Euro 2024. This time, his tap-in header gave his team a 2-0 win against Austria (the Juventus striker had an earlier goal disallowed by VAR).
Kolo Muani was also a key player for France, who made up for their defeat a few days earlier, beating Croatia 2-0, taking the match first to extra time and then to penalties: in the end, the Juventus striker (who came on during the final stages of the match for just that reason) also scored from the penalty spot and the French secured their place in the semi-final of the UEFA Nations League.
However, it was a decidedly complicated first half for Federico Gatti's Italy against Germany. After the Germans’ 2-1 victory three days ago, they got off to the best possible start in the home game against the Azzurri, scoring three times before half- time. The comeback of coach Luciano Spalletti's team did not affect the end result, and despite getting back into the game, it ended with a 3-3 draw, eliminating Italy from the UEFA Nations League.
Francisco Conceicao's Portugal, on the other hand, made a successful comeback. Despite their defeat in Copenhagen, the Portuguese managed to turn the situation around in the match in Lisbon after extra time: 3-2 at the end of the 90 minutes, which then became 5-2, leading to Denmark's elimination.
Another very even match ended in penalties between Spain and the Netherlands, with the Red Fury making it 3-3 at home in Valencia after drawing 2-2 in Rotterdam: Teun Koopmeiners also came on in the final stages of the match and didn't miss from the penalty spot, unlike Noa Lang and Donyell Malen who condemned Holland to defeat.
A clear win for Kenan Yildiz's Türkiye, who also won 3-0 away against Hungary, thus ending with a resounding 6-1 in the total score of the two matches: 82 minutes on the pitch for the Juventus number 10.
Our recap concludes with the U21 national team matches: Mbangula’s Belgium U21 team beat the Andorra team of the same age 4-0; while Jonas Rouhi’s started in the Sweden U21 match against Wales U21 that ended in a 1-1 draw.
