Juventus Football Club can today confirm that transfer of Alex Sandro to Chelsea, the left wing-back signing an x-year deal with the English club.
On joining the Bianconeri from Porto in the summer of 2015, Sandro established himself as one of Serie A’s outstanding full-backs in the two richly successful seasons that followed.
Attentive in defence, relentless in his excursions up and down the touchline and unerringly accurate when delivering into the box, the Brazilian deservedly made the left-sided slot his own at Juventus Stadium.
After a steady start in Turin, alternating regularly with Patrice Evra, the 26-year-old went on to become one of Italy’s most consistent performers, not least one of Massimiliano Allegri’s most important players in both double-winning campaigns.
Since making his debut against Chievo in September 2015, Alex Sandro has created 92 scoring chances – 90 of which from open play – both bettering the efforts of any other defender in Italy’s top-flight.
Going the other way, only Leonardo Bonucci has made more recoveries (281) than Sandro (102) in the past two Serie A seasons, while a total of 62 made the South American his team’s most effective tackler in the 2016/17 campaign.
More than anything, Alex will be remembered for his attacking contributions, racking up five goals and 11 assists in his time in Turin, again making him the most productive of Juve’s rearguard.
Two of those assists came against Lazio in the Coppa Italia final in May. The first for Dani Alves’ strike to break the deadlock a perfect example of what Alex Sandro was all about; inch-perfect delivery and match-winning quality in the key moments.
After 75 matches together and four domestic trophies together, all associated with the club would like to wish Alex the very best of luck in his new adventure and thank him for two truly excellent years of service to the team.
