Juventus kickstart 2024 with a Round of 16 Coppa Italia clash at home to Salernitana, taking on the Granata on Thursday evening, 4 January, at the Allianz Stadium.
This is the first-ever Cup meeting between the two sides, with the visitors having won just one of their eight previous league match-ups against the Bianconeri.
Ahead of their Cup knockout clash, here's ten things to know about Salernitana.
1. Salernitana has twice played in the Italian Cup Round of 16, being eliminated on both occasions: in 2000/01 in a home/return match against Fiorentina, and in 2008/09 in a single match against Napoli.
2. The Granata head into Thursday’s clash off the back of two victories without conceding in the Italian Cup – they have not won consecutive matches in the competition since the period between August and September 2004 (four in that case) and have not obtained three clean sheets in a row in the tournament since the period between August and September 2003.
3. Salernitana have lost without scoring in all their last four away matches in the Italian Cup and have never recorded a longer consecutive losing streak away from home in the competition (four away defeats in a row also between September 2000 and August 2001).
4. After having been involved in just one goal against Juventus in his first 24 matches in all competitions, Antonio Candreva has been involved in three goals (two goals, one assist) in his last five matches against the Bianconeri, scoring in his last presence at the Allianz Stadium (2-2, 11 September 2022). The ex-Bianconero is also the player who has scored the most goals from outside the area in Europe’s top five major leagues in 2023 (five).
5. Domagoj Bradaric is the Salernitana player who has made the most appearances this season across all competitions (20).
6. Only Leandro Paredes (nine) has received more yellow cards than Norbert Gyömbér this Serie A season (eight).
7. Last weekend, at the age of 20 years and 113 days, Loum Tchaouna became the youngest player to score a goal for Salernitana in Serie A.
8. Grigoris Kastanos has contributed three assists so far this season, already one more than those provided in the previous four Serie A seasons, in 64 games with three different shirts (Pescara, Juventus and Salernitana).
9. Over the last weekend of 2023, Simy returned to play a Serie A match as a starter 743 days after his previous start (17 December 2021, against Inter).
10. Jovane Cabral has hit the woodwork four times this season, no player has more (four also for Matías Soulé).
