Hellas Verona have started well in their first season back in the Serie A.
Juric’s squad have won four points in their first three games this season, displaying good football while fielding many young players.
The New Look Verona
Ivan Juric takes charge in his first season at Verona. Marco Silvestri starts in goal with a usual back-up of three defenders in front of him. One of the new defensive line-up faces this season is Kosovar Amir Rrahmani who arrived from Dinamo Zagreb.
German, Koray Günter arrived from Genoa, he has been a consistent starter this season. However, the surprise so far has been the Albanian, Marash Kumbulla, a product of Verona’s youth system. In the middle of the field, the two most important players are represented by the Portuguese, Miguel Veloso, who immediately became the captain of the squad, and the Serbian, Darko Lazovic. Both were managed by Juric at Genoa.
On loan from Club Brugges is the Moroccan, Sofyan Amrabat. Another new arrival was Matteo Pessina who came from Atalanta. In the attack, the new faces are Valerio Verre who scored 12 goals in 36 Serie B games with Perugia. The other, Gennaro Tutino, arrived from Cosenza, scoring 10 goals in 34 matches also in the Serie B last season.
Polish striker, Mariusz Stepinski will not play against on Saturday as he was sent off last week against Milan.
Juric’s Tactics
A victory, a draw and a defeat so far for Hellas Verona this season. In their two home games so far this season, they have only managed to get a point. However, they showed much character against Bologna, recovering a disadvantage and holding a tough Milan side to a draw.
Juric is a coach whose main elements rely on rhythm, pressing, intensity and recover of the ball. Verona tend to line-up in a 3 4 3 formation.
A defensive line of 3 power houses set up the back line, the speedy wingers in Lazovic and Faraoni and the two middle men in Amrabat and Veloso make up the midfield line.
Finishing Verona’s attack, Tutino will most likely lined up against Juventus given Stepinski’s disqualification. The young Italian talent, who was developed in the Napoli youth system, is more a second fiddle. Providing agile and fast feet with movement that guarantees danger to the opposition defence.
Against Lecce away, Juric’s team conjured up 11 shots, six of which came inside the penalty area, thus demonstrating good accuracy on the offensive game.
On Saturday at Allianz Stadium, we will have to expect a team that will try to close down the open spaces in their own half. A steady and assured defence will surely frustrate our team as even a point for Verona will be a positive outcome. Coming off the back of two goals in Madrid should be the push we need to get the result.
