Paul Pogba says tonight’s triumph was a “group effort” after the Bianconeri defeated Sassuolo 1-0 and subsequently extended their advantage over Roma at the summit of Serie A to 11 points.
The 21-year-old, who hit his seventh Serie A strike of the season, proved the matchwinner as his stunning goal ensured all three points up against a resolute Neroverdi outfit.
Speaking to reporters pitchside following the encounter, he began: “It was a really tough game, as we knew it would be. Tonight’s victory is very important.
“I’d like to thank everyone, my team-mates and the fans: we need their support especially when we're not playing well because winning is a group effort.”
On his goal, the French international revealed that although Simone Pepe’s through ball was intended for another one of his team-mates, he felt confident enough to take the opportunity on himself: “The pass was meant for someone else, but I felt I could take it on and have a shot on goal.”
Pogba has been lauded by many for his consistently high performances in the black and white jersey this 2014/15 campaign, but concluded by saying he has plenty of room for improvement: “I need to continue working hard on the pitch and during training in order to become a top player.”
