CHAMPIONS LEAGUE CAMPAIGN
Porto lost just once in the group stage – the Matchday 1 clash away at Manchester City, where the English side ran out 3-1 winners (Luis Diaz scored for the visitors). Sergio Conceicao’s side produced an instant reaction in the games that followed, however, putting together a run of four wins and one draw without conceding a single goal as they secured second place. They beat Olympiacos 2-0 at the Estadio Do Dragao (Fabio Vieira and Sergio Oliveira with the goals), before dispatching Marseille with a 3-0 victory, again at home, courtesy of goals from Moussa Marega, Diaz and Oliveira. Porto followed this up with a 2-0 win over the French side at the Velodrome (Zaidu Sanusi and Oliveira), a 0-0 home draw against Manchester City and a 2-0 win away at Olympiacos (Otavio and Mateus Uribe).
Porto’s overall record in Group C reads 13 points amassed, ten goals scored and just three conceded. Their top-scorer so far in the competition is Sergio Oliveira, with three goals.
PORTO ON THE DOMESTIC FRONT
Porto currently sit third in the Portuguese league, with 19 points collected after nine games. Sporting Clube are leading the way as things stand with 23 points, while Benfica sit second on 21. Last time out, Porto knocked Tondela out of the Portuguese Cup with a 2-1 win (Mehdi Taremi and Marega). Porto’s top scorers in the league are Sergio Oliveira and Moussa Marega, both with four goals apiece.
STATS & FACTS
Juventus have faced Porto on five previous occasions in Europe – and the Bianconeri have never lost. Our record reads four wins (including two in the Champions League Round of 16 in 2017) and one draw, back in 2001. Juventus have kept clean sheets in three of those five clashes against Porto, conceding just one goal overall.
The Old Lady has lost only one of its last 11 matches against Portuguese opposition in Europe, a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Benfica in April 2014. Seven wins and three draws complete the Bianconeri’s record.
Juventus have faced a Portuguese side once before in the Round of 16 of the Champions League – none other than Porto. The two sides faced off back in 2017, with the Bianconeri advancing to the quarter-finals.
