The 2023/2024 season couldn't have started any better for Juventus who return from Friuli with three well-earned points following Sunday night's 3-0 win over Udinese.
Coach Massimiliano Allegri - after his 250th career victory on our bench - goalscorer Federico Chiesa and debutant Andrea Cambiaso shared their thoughts after the game.
MASSIMILIANO ALLEGRI
"We are satisfied with the performance and the result, but this match offered interesting points to work on. There are undoubtedly two aspects on which we need to improve. First of all, on managing the ball, especially looking at the second half: this has to be done in the opponent's half and we need to move the ball a little more. This evening was the first official match, it was very hot and we had players returning from injuries, but we have ample room for improvement in this sense. The second aspect on which we need to improve, however, is when you can't handle the ball well, and you make a mistake, you have to defend differently. It's true that we had a 3-0 lead, but you always have to be careful because matches change quickly, you concede a goal and then everything becomes more complicated. However, I'm happy with the team's performance overall."
FEDERICO CHIESA
"Today we played a great game, especially in the first half where we played with intensity by pressing them high up the pitch. We have to play like this, this is modern football. We have to be proactive, we proved it today and we won the match. My position? I get on very well alongside Dusan, then in reality we're not standing still, we're moving a lot because that's what the coach is asking of us. We must not be static, so as not to give reference points to our opponents. We vary across the offensive frontline, and we enjoy freedom of movement. We're on the right path, we must continue like this."
ANDREA CAMBIASO
"I am very happy with my official debut for Juventus. For me, being here is a great privilege. The tour went very well, from the very first days, then for me, having arrived at this level from the lower ranks, playing with champions of this caliber is very nice, and I really enjoy myself on the pitch. I like my role very much. I really like to attack, so this position is perfect because it takes me further forward. With Federico Chiesa, our understanding is excellent because he, due to his characteristics, likes to start from the left, and I manage to get inside the field. I can still improve a lot, because I'm only at the beginning. Once again today the Coach told me that I ran a bit too much and in fact around the 70th minute I already had a bit of cramps, so I definitely have to manage myself better. The goal is to have this intensity, which I put on the field for seventy minutes this evening, for the entire duration of the match. We must continue to work like this."
