Stefano Sturaro says he’s growing with every game that passes after putting in an accomplished display at the heart of the Bianconeri midfield during tonight’s 2-0 win over Empoli.
The 22-year-old, who filled in due to Claudio Marchisio’s absence, performed admirably during his first start at Juventus Stadium since transferring from Genoa at the end of January.
Speaking to reporters in the mixed zone, he began: “Having the opportunity to play with champions makes everything easier. I really like the environment here and have settled in well. It’s my third game and I can only get better.
“I don’t want to give myself a vote, I’ll leave that to the others. Each of us knows our role and sticks to our respective task.”
The Italy Under-21 international went on to commend tonight’s visitors for the way they asked questions of the Bianconeri throughout a tightly-contested encounter.
“Empoli are a well-drilled side with pace and move the ball around nicely. They caused us problems and were more ambitious in the second half, but we were able to bag that second goal and secure all three points.”
Sturaro ended proceedings with a quick word regarding his tackle on Daniele Rugani, an incident that led to the indirect free-kick from which Carlos Tevez opened the scoring in Turin.
“The referee had every right to blow for the foul. I put pressure on him [Rugani] and their goalkeeper made an error by picking the ball up instead of clearing it.”
