The Bianconeri coach and midfielder discussed their thoughts and feelings following their Super Cup defeat against Lazio in Saudi Arabia.
MAURIZIO SARRI
“We came into this game with a deficit of physical and mental energy, this happens. We had a little less energy than them, Lazio is in a moment of total trust. We are sorry we lost a trophy, but we still have many competitions at stake in the next five months. There is anger but crying over it does not solve the problems. On the field, we could "slide" a little better on the outside, the interpretation of the match led us to use more energy, but my feeling is that we didn't lose from fatigue, but from a lack of brilliance."
MIRALEM PJANIC
“We are sorry. The first half was balanced, and the pace was not high. Lazio's second goal put us in trouble to get back into the game, and we didn't succeed. We cared, and we're sorry. Also, this evening, Lazio only confirmed that they are a good team: we lacked brilliance, and that's what made the difference.”
LEONARDO BONUCCI
"Lazio should be given credit for having played a great game. We knew they were in optimal physical and psychological condition, and at the beginning, we paid a little for a lack of aggression, but we still managed to straighten the game out. In the second half, we managed to recover better on the second balls, but we were never really dangerous and this must make us think. They put us in difficulty with their depth and with the high balls. In fact, the second goal was created from a ball on the second post. Too bad, because we wanted to bring home this trophy, but they have proven to be a great team. Now we must recover our energy, because in many important matches await us in 2020"
