Juventus announces the renewal of Wojciech Szczesny's contract, who will continue to wear our shirt until 2024.
Having arrived in Turin in the summer of 2017 following playing stints at Arsenal and Roma, Szczesny has worked his way into becoming the first-choice goalkeeper at Juventus, accumulating 84 official matches, and winning two Scudetti, a Coppa Italia and an Italian Super Cup.
Since his arrival, he has recorded the best percentage of clean sheets in relation to the matches played: 46% (28 out of 61). In recent years, he has conceded an average of 0.7 goals per game in Serie A, the lowest ratio taking into account the goalkeepers with at least five appearances.
In his first season Szczesny started behind Gianluigi Buffon, however, playing 21 games in all and guaranteeing the team a great solidity. Decisive saves, which allowed him to earn the starting shirt in the following year, which Szczesny carries on his shoulders again this year.
In his first season, Szczesny started behind Gianluigi Buffon, but he featured in 21 games and proved to be solid between the poles. His decisive saves, allowed him to become the starting goalkeeper the following year (2018/2019), playing almost twice as many matches (41).
And this season he has started in a great manner… featuring in 14 games between Serie A, the UEFA Champions League and the Italian Super Cup, and among the goalkeepers with more than one appearance in this league is the one with the highest percentage of saves (83.7%). Wojciech also completed 83.7% of the shots attempted in the league: the highest ratio of goalkeepers with at least five appearances in the current tournament.
This wonderful adventure between Szczesny and Juventus will therefore continue until 2024 and there is no doubting this is a deserved renewal, because Wojciech is a great goalkeeper. Good luck!
