A Marcelo Larrondo missed penalty led to Torino beginning their 2014/15 campaign with a goalless draw against Inter at the Stadio Olimpico back in August.
The Granata’s winless run continued into September as Verona triumphed 1-0 before Fabio Quagliarella’s strike ensured a share of the spoils during a 1-1 stalemate versus Fiorentina at the culmination of the month.
A second goal in as many home games for the ex-Bianconero forward followed in a slender victory over Udinese* *and Matteo Darmian then made it two 1-0 wins on the spin, his goal downing Parma just ten days later.
Atalanta were a tough nut to crack in November’s opening match, pulling off a 0-0 draw,* *before Sassuolo became the second team to come away from Turin victorious as they won 1-0 in the final week of the month.
December brought the turn of club captain Kamil Glik to find his goalscoring touch. The Polish defender opened his account in front of the Granata faithful during a 2-2 draw with Palermo, and tripled it when he bagged a brace in Torino’s 2-1 triumph over Genoa.
As a new year dawned, Glik was at it again as his late equaliser cancelled out Jeremy Menez’s spot-kick to deny 10-man Milan all three points midway through January.
Giampiero Ventura’s men then registered their biggest win of the season in February, Quagliarella hitting a hat-trick in a 5-1 drubbing of high-flying Sampdoria in Turin.
A 1-1 draw with lowly Cagliari followed two weeks later before Glik made it five home goals for the season, as his header ensured a tight 1-0 success versus Napoli at the Stadio Olimpico.
But that proved to be the last time Torino took* *all three points on home soil this term. In the subsequent games, Lazio won 2-0 at the halfway point of March while Maxi Lopez’s finish registered a 1-1 stalemate against Roma at the beginning of this month.
Having failed to beat Juventus in any of the last 17 Derby della Mole encounters, a run that stretches back to April 1995, a big home performance is required if Ventura’s troops want to shatter their hoodoo in style on Sunday afternoon.
