A trip to Belgium beckons for the Bianconeri on Matchday 7 of the League Phase of this season's UEFA Champions League, where Juventus take on Club Brugge on Tuesday night.
Brugge are a side the Bianconeri have met on four previous occasions, winning three of those and losing just one. David Trezeguet, Pavel Nedved and Alessandro Del Piero all helped to deliver two Bianconeri wins when they faced off in 2005/06, while there was one win apiece back in the 1977/78 season.
CLUB BRUGGE’S HISTORY
The club, based in Bruges, Flanders, traces its origins back to 1891 when it was founded under the name FC Bruges. That name was kept for a number of years - almost a century - until in 1972 it was changed to what it is today. As far as domestic trophies go, Club Brugge are Belgium’s second team, behind only Anderlecht - they have won 19 league titles, 11 Belgian Cups and 17 Super Cups.
They wear black and blue, leading to one of their nicknames - Blauw en Zwart.
Their home stadium is the Jan Breeder Stadium, which is shared with city rivals Cercle. It has been their home ground since 1975 and has a capacity of over 29,000.
CLUB BRUGGE THIS SEASON
Club Brugge are the reigning Belgian champions, and that status earned them direct qualification for this season’s Champions League league phase.
In Europe this season, they have won three of their six matches played so far, including a 2-1 win over Sporting CP at home last time out, and sit in 19th place on the overall table with 10 points. After 22 matches in their domestic season, the Blauw-Zwart sit second in the Belgian Pro League standings with 14 wins to their name, one point behind leaders Genk.
See you all in Bruges on Tuesday, 21 January!
