President of Juventus from 1955 to 1962 and of the Italian Football Federation (FIGC) from 1959 to 1961, Umberto Agnelli has left a long-lasting legacy in the beautiful game and today received fitting acknowledgement of his achievements by entering the Hall of Fame for Italian football, set up in 2011 by the FIGC and the Fondazione Museo del Calcio.
“I’d like to express my gratitude to the commission for honouring my father Umberto Agnelli with this award,” began FIGC president Carlo Tavecchio, speaking on behalf of Juventus president Andrea Agnelli, who is involved today in events on the eve of the Bianconeri’s Champions League meeting with Bayern Munich.
“Over the course of his long career as an entrepreneur, manager and director of sport, Umberto demonstrated innovation and passion in everything he did. For me he was, is and always will be a true role model, a father.
“It is immensely satisfying to know that his life can serve as an inspiration to all of us who look to work towards a better future, thanks to a renewed sense of responsibility, which is one of the qualities that always shone through in him.
“I’d like to take this opportunity to congratulate all members of the football world who have entered the Hall of Fame today, especially two men who have also honoured Juventus, Gianluca Vialli and Marco Tardelli.”
