05 September 2023
The 2023/24 season begins for Juventus Women with huge importance. To kick off the campaign after our summer friendlies, Juventus are in UEFA Women's Champions League qualification. Our Bianconere have been drawn in a mini-tournament group with Ozkhetpes, Eintracht Frankfut and Slovacko.
Our first opponent are Kazakh side Ozkhetpes on Wednesday, September 6. Kick-off is at 13:00 CEST.
Now, let's look into our first competitive opponents of 2023/24!
Okzhetpes
Okzhetpes finished as runners-up in the Kazakh league last season, ending the campaign with 42 points from their 20 games, leaving them 12 points off top spot. With eight games already played this term, they find themselves third, although they have played fewer games than those around them.
Domestically, BIIK Kazygurt have been the dominant force in Kazakh women's football for the last decade. They have only had their dominance interrupted in 2010 and in 2012 by CSHVSM-Kairat.
Okzhetpes will face Juventus off the back of two losses against BIIK Kazygurt - 3-0 and 5-1. They had previously enjoyed an 11-0 win, though.
The Kazakh top flight consists of six sides, with the top two qualifying fo the Women's Champions League. The teams face off four times.
Okzhetpes in the UWCL
The Kazakhs played no part in the Champions League last season, but they were involved in 2021/22. Then, a 4-0 loss to Arsenal put an end to their chances, and they then suffered the same result against Lokomotiv Moscow.
The previous season, before the introduction of the qualification mini-tournament format, they had been knocked out against Georgian side Lanchkhuti.
