Football is a results business and while every side seeks to play the game in the right way and in their own distinctive style, winning is all that counts especially when it comes to a local derby.
Previewing Sunday’s 141st Derby Della Mole this afternoon, Massimiliano Allegri’s opposite number Giampiero Ventura has called on his Torino side to prioritise victory over veneer and to do whatever it takes to emerge victorious at the Stadio Olimpico.
Discussing the mentality he expects to see from his team, the for a potential Bianconeri reaction to their midweek Champions League exit and the importance of home support tomorrow afternoon, here are a selection of key quotes from Ventura’s pre-match press conference:
Winning at all costs
"I’ve always believed that if you play well, you get the results you deserve. Tomorrow however is all about winning regardless of our performance. We’ve prepared for the match as best we can and the boys can’t wait to get stuck into the action.
“Anything can happen in a derby and I am looking looking forward to seeing my team play with their hearts and to demonstrate what it means to represent this club.
“It is easy to say that Juventus need the three points more than we do given that they are fighting for the title but I’d say a win would mean for my players; it would be a fine reward for the great work that they have put in since the start of the season."
A wounded Old Lady?
"Juve aren’t the kind of side that needs an invitation to get back to winning ways. They were magnificent on Wednesday and so the nature of their defeat will have hurt them. They will be out for a swift vengeance tomorrow, no doubt about it."
