Another pillar of our recent history has decided to step away from playing professional football, with Wojciech Szczesny announcing his retirement on Tuesday, 27 August.

Tek and Juventus parted ways on 14 August, we thanked him and wished him well for the future, and now we know that his next steps will be taken away from the pitch, having taken the decision to hang up his gloves.

He made 252 official appearances with Juventus, with 200 of those coming in Serie A, and this most recent milestone made him just the seventh foreign player to his a double century of appearances (since 1994/95) with the Bianconeri.

In those games he managed 100 clean sheets, that number is 103 if you count the games he didn’t complete 90 minutes in, he saved nine penalties between Serie A and the Champions League, and boasted a 73% save percentage that was better than anybody else in Serie A since he landed in Turin.

In his seven years, Tek won eight trophies with us - three Serie A titles, three Italian Cups and two Italian Super Cups.

His numbers cannot be argued with - they’re incredible, but they never outshone his character. From his first day in Turin, he was able to win everybody over, and from day one his charisma, kindness and personality saw him win the hearts of Juventini all around the world.

Today a giant of the game says goodbye, and we can only extend our gratitude to him once more with an enormous and heartfelt “THANK YOU” for the impeccable professional that he was. Thank you for always giving your all to defend our goal, and above all for the values you showed as a person both on and off the pitch.

Powodzenia, Tek!
