Julia Grosso played her part for Canada as they claimed their first win of the 2023 Women's World Cup against the Republic of Ireland, giving them a real chance at progressing to the knockout rounds.
Her Canada came from behind to beat Ireland 2-1, with Katie McCabe putting the Irish ahead in the fourth minute as she scored directly from a corner. But Canada battled back and went in level at the break largely thanks to Grosso, as her fine work on the left and dangerous cross saw Megan Connolly turn into her own goal. Adriana Leon then put them ahead early in the second half.
Those three points are vital for Canada, leaving them on four in the group stage. Vera Pauw's Ireland, meanwhile, are eliminated afte their second straight defeat.
