Alex Sandro only has positive memories of playing against Torino. It was the wing-back’s cross which set up Juan Cuadrado to secure an all-important league win back in October – a result that triggered Juventus’ imperious winning streak in Serie A – while he also featured in December’s 4-0 thrashing of their inter-city rivals in the Coppa Italia last 16.
Having taken virtually no time at all to comprehend the importance of the Derby Della Mole since arriving from Porto in the summer, Alex Sandro has his sights set on registering a third victory over the Granata this campaign when the Bianconeri make the short trip to the Stadio Olimpico on Sunday afternoon.
Speaking to Jtv on Friday, he began: “What’s most crucial of all is coming away with the win. We need to have the hunger and desire to take home all three points.
“In the first derby at Juventus Stadium, I was happy to provide the assist for Juan’s winner, but Sunday is a different game. I anticipate a very difficult encounter just as with any other game in Serie A.
“Obviously it’s also an extremely special match for the fans and for us players. We don’t just feel all the emotions during the 90 minutes but also in the entire week leading up to it.”
The 141st Derby Della Mole is also set to be a special affair for Bianconeri captain Gigi Buffon, who is just four minutes away from breaking the Serie A record for minutes without conceding.
“I hope we don’t concede at all during the match, let alone in the first few minutes,” affirmed Alex Sandro, who went on to praise manager Massimiliano Allegri for his methods in ensuring the whole side performs to its full potential.
“He’s a coach that demands the very best from all of us and this is what allows us to keep growing.”
On the topic of growth, the Brazilian admitted that the current campaign had so far been one to cherish especially in terms of his own personal development, as he has become an increasingly essential member of a competitive squad.
He concluded: “Wearing this shirt comes with a real responsibility. It’s a privilege to represent this club and all the fans. I’m learning a lot here and this has been an extremely valuable season for me.”
