03 August 2018
Juventus Pass is the place to tune into this Sunday, when at 15.00 CEST (14.00 GMT), you can watch Juventus Women play their very first match on foreign territory!
Indeed, London is calling for Rita Guarino’s girls, who will take on Arsenal Women in a prestigious pre-season friendly at Meadow Park.
This is the first of two matches for the Bianconere in the English capital with Chelsea Women next in line on 8 August at 20.00 CEST (19.00 GMT).
Here is the travelling party confirmed for London.
GETTING TO KNOW ARSENAL WOMEN
Formed in 1987, Arsenal Women have a winning history and have raised 58 trophies so far in their 31-year existence.
The Gunners’ most successful season to date was 2006/07 when they secured a ‘quadruple’ trophy haul to mark their 20thanniversary. That year, they also became the first British team to win the UEFA Women’s Champions League.
Arsenal Women play their matches at Meadow Park in Boreham wood, Hertfordshire, which has a capacity of just over 4,000.
Since November 2017, they are managed by Joseph Montemurro. The Australian led the Gunners to the WSL Continental Cup in his first season, whilst finishing runners up in the FA Womens’ Cup.
JUVENTUS WOMEN’S SUMMER SCHEDULE
Having won both the Scudetto and Coppa Italia in their inaugural 2017/18 season, Juventus Women will be fighting on three fronts this term with a debut campaign in the UEFA Women’s Champions League.
Hence, Rita Guarino’s girls are getting plenty of valuable match practice under their belts, not least with the upcoming friendlies in London against two well-established sides, Arsenal Women and Chelsea Women (8 August, 20.00 CEST).
Juventus Women kicked off pre-season last Sunday with a 2-0 victory over Hungarians, Ferencvàros Women, and their preparations will continue later this month with outings against Swiss side, Lugano (14 August, 18.00 CEST) and then Chinese Super League Women outfit, Wuhan Jiangda FC (18 August, 18:00 CEST).
SPECIAL OCCASION FOR SANDERSON
New Juventus forward, Lianne Sanderson, will be facing her former team when the Bianconere take on Arsenal Women this Sunday.
It was with the Gunners that the Londoner first broke onto the scene, having emerged through the club’s youth system before excelling for the first team between 2003 and 2008.
During those five seasons, she won five consecutive FA Women’s Premier League titles, four FA Women’s Cups, two FA Women’s Premier League Cups and one UEFA Women’s Cup. Moreover, in both 2016/17 and 2017/18, she finished the club’s top scorer.
Sanderson is one of several exciting recruits that Juventus Women have made during the summer, joined by Eniola Aluko (a former team-mate of Sanderson’s in the England setup), Cristiana Girelli, Aleksandra Sikora, Petronella Ekroth and Doris Bačić, adding plenty of international experience, as Guarino’s girls embark on their first ever European campaign.
