“We’ll take the best bits from this performance – the character we showed and the tenacity and desire we displayed to overcome difficulties.” Gigi Buffon was his usual candid self after Juventus came from behind to win in the rain at the Dacia Arena.

“We’ll happily take the win tonight because it was an awkward one but we have to perform better because I really believe that you won’t lift the Scudetto by winning matches 6-2.”

The captain played a big part in the success, pulling off a couple of huge saves, but he singled out Gonzalo Higuain for praise. “I just try and do my job – nothing out of the ordinary. The one who really deserves credit for his display is Gonzalo. I really liked his approach. The coach should show all 25 players in the squad his performance to highlight how you win league titles.”

Daniele Rugani was another player who came to the fore, recording a goal and an assist for the first time in his young career. Buffon was quick to acknowledge the centre back’s contribution. “Daniele provided an assist and scored a crucial goal. His task wasn’t easy back there alongside [Giorgio] Chiellini especially with a man light. They put in a terrific shift.”

The keeper also stressed that Juventus thrive on having to win every game. “Our side is made up of players who have to feel a certain sort of pressure. I’m talking about myself but the same goes for the rest of the guys. We have such experience that sometimes feeling the pressure to win matches does us good. Now we have to turn that pressure into a competitive edge and harness it for our next few games.”

Finally, Buffon touched upon the likely absence of Leonardo Bonucci for the AC Milan trip through suspension. “I’m disappointed. It would have been nice to have seen him again on such a big night. It’s anything but a normal fixture but it’s happened now and I hope we can make the most of his absence.”
