Borussia Dortmund registered their first league victory in two months as they swept Freiburg aside with a 3-0 away triumph on Saturday afternoon.
Having not tasted success in the Bundesliga since beating Hoffenheim 1-0 on 5 December, two draws and two defeats in the subsequent four matches had seen Jurgen Klopp’s outfit drop to the bottom of the domestic standings.
But last year’s runners-up demonstrated the mettle that had earned them rave reviews in recent seasons by putting in an accomplished display against Freiburg at the Mage Solar Stadion to somewhat put their recent troubles behind them.
Marco Reus gave the visitors the lead on nine minutes, profiting from indecisiveness among the Freiburg rearguard before burying the ball home. And Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang then added a second-half brace to make sure of the points as Juventus’ upcoming Champions League last 16 opponents won only their fifth league encounter of the 2014/15 campaign.
Today’s result means Borussia Dortmund have overtaken both Freiburg and Stuttgart, who lost 2-0 at home to Bayern Munich, to move into 16th place in the domestic standings ahead of next week’s home fixture with Mainz at the Westfalenstadion on Friday 13 February.
