First-half strikes from Carlos Tevez and Alvaro Morata allowed the Bianconeri to defeat Borussia Dortmund 2-1 in Tuesday evening’s Champions League last 16 first leg at Juventus Stadium.
Prior to yesterday’s game, the hosts were winless in their last four meetings against German sides, having drawn one and lost three of those encounters. The Bianconeri had also not beaten the visitors on home turf since 1993.
Marco Reus cancelled out Tevez’s opener before Morata’s first Champions League goal for the club, and his second overall after finding the net against Schalke 04 for Real Madrid last season, saw Massimiliano Allegri’s men claim an important result ahead of the return leg at the Westfalenstadion.
The Old Lady have now scored 17 times in their previous eight outings with Borussia Dortmund whilst last year’s Bundesliga runners-up are still yet to keep a clean sheet against Juventus.
Here is a closer look at the key numbers from last night’s Champions League victory:
Two
Chances created by Claudio Marchisio. The 29-year-old was also on hand to make five interceptions at the heart of the Bianconeri midfield.
Four
Goals scored by Tevez in his seven Champions League appearances this term.
Five
Tackles won by Stephan Lichtsteiner, with the Swiss defender also providing three crosses and performing eight recoveries during a typically marauding display down Juventus’ right flank.
Seven
Lay-offs courtesy of Paul Pogba as the Frenchman endeavoured to link up play between the hosts' midfield and attack.
11
Games Juventus are now unbeaten in all competitions since the turn of the year. The club’s record currently stands at eight victories and three draws.
57
Passes completed by Leonardo Bonucci who also launched eight good long balls and enjoyed 81 touches throughout the European encounter.
