The Juventus Women earned a hard-fought three points in Vinovo on Saturday night defeating Verona 1-0 behind a goal from Sanna Franssi. The win keeps the Bianconere perfect on the young Serie A season moving to a 4-0-0 record.
A closely-fought first half saw the Juventus Women nearly take the lead after nine minutes as Lisa Boattin fired just wide. Benedetta Glionna created multiple chances down the wings for Juventus, but the Bianconere couldn’t convert into the back of the net.
Late in the first half Verona would have a golden opportunity to give the Juventus Women their first-ever deficit in Serie A as goalkeeper Laura Giuliani fouled Caterina Ambrosi in the box earning a yellow card and a penalty kick for Verona.
However, Giuliani would come up big diving to her left to deny Sofia Kongouli and keep the score tied at 0-0 into half-time.
In the second half, Rita Guarino’s side came out with a renewed energy and took the lead in the 50th minute. Glionna distributed the ball out wide to Aurora Galli who sent in a cross that Franssi finished past Diede Lemey to put Juventus up 1-0.
Juve would hold strong in the second half despite some nervy moments to earn the tough 1-0 win and move to 4-0-0 on the season. They’ll return to action on Saturday 11 November away to Bari.
