After Juventus Women recorded their first loss of the campaign last weekend, falling 1-2 to Brescia at Vinovo, the Bianconere were defeated by the same scoreline this afternoon in Florence. Having trailed to Ilaria Mauro’s 72nd minute goal, Juve got themselves back in it just seven minutes later when Sanni Franssi lashed home from a corner. However, in the 90th minute Cecilia Salvai touched in a Fiorentina corner into her own net that saw Fiorentina record their third straight win.

The home team went closest in the 29th minute when a corner that was flicked on by Alice Parisi hit the post and Laura Giuliani quickly pounced on the ball to stop it crossing the goal-line.

In the second half and substitute, Benedetta Glionna had the ball in the back of the net after just three minutes but her strike was ruled out for a foul on Alia Guagni. Fiorentina had a dangerous attack in the 55th minute, as they cut into the Juve box down their left-hand side and picked out Tatiana Bonetti but Giuliani was able to get a strong hand to her shot. Glionna was then able to get in behind the Fiorentina defence from a Juventus Women throw, but Stephanie Ohrstrom in the Fiorentina goal got down low to turn away her shot for a corner.

The home side found a way through in the 72nd minute as Patrizia Caccamo’s cross from the left was deflected into the path of Ilaria Mauro and her placed shot went past Giuliani in the Juve goal to give Fiorentina the lead. Juventus Women responded seven minutes later when a corner fell to the feet of Sanni Franssi, and the Finnish striker made no mistake to level the scores.

Having worked hard to get back into the game in dramatic fashion, there would be a further sting in the tail when a Fiorentina corner was turned into the back of the Bianconere net by Cecilia Salvai, as the hosts went on to win 2-1.

Despite today’s defeat, a last-minute Atalanta-Mozzanica goal away at Brescia ensured that Juventus Women’s title rivals didn’t move above them in the table as they fell 2-3 at home. Up next Juve will attempt to kick-start their campaign again when they host Ravenna Woman at Vinovo on Saturday 28 April.
