Alvaro Morata says the Bianconeri had to dig deep to overcome a tricky Borussia Dortmund outfit during this evening’s 2-1 Champions League last 16 first leg triumph over the Bundesliga side in Turin.
The 22-year-old proved tonight’s matchwinner as he finished a flowing move to sidefoot home past Roman Weidenfeller on 43 minutes before the hosts shut up shop and contained their German counterparts for the remainder of the match.
Speaking to reporters in the mixed zone, Morata began: “I’m pleased with the result. Regardless of their league position, it wasn’t an easy game up against this Borussia Dortmund side.
“The return leg will be a tough encounter in a fiery atmosphere. It’s difficult to go to the Westfalenstadion and win but we’ll travel there ready to give everything we’ve got.”
The Spanish striker, who is now off the mark in the Champions League for the club following his move from Real Madrid last summer, concluded proceedings by revealing he feels to have made improvements throughout his first season at Juventus Stadium.
“I learn a lot from the defenders that we have in our squad during training and those I face every week in the league.”
