Morata talks Milan

Alvaro Morata was set to play for Spain in Belgium last night in Brussels, but the match was called off due to security fears following the series of attacks in Paris on Friday night.

Back in Vinovo, the forward began his interview with Jtv by commenting on the events in France.

“It was a terrible tragedy and on behalf of the team I’d like to send my sincerest condolences to the families of the victims and all those who are suffering at this moment in time.”

With domestic duties resuming this weekend, the Bianconeri host Milan on Saturday evening and Morata has his sights set on a third successive Serie A victory that would see his side leapfrog their rivals in the league.

“Historically it’s the biggest match in Italian football. We’re looking to win it and to continue our climb up the table. We haven’t started in the best of ways this term, it wasn’t easy after making so many changes to the side, but we’re getting to know one another better now.

“This year our opponents have strengthened and Serie A has become more competitive. There are at least four or five teams fighting for the title, but we’ve still a great willingness to win and we want to return to our usual position of leading the way in the league.”

Coming up in the calendar quickly after Saturday’s contest is a Champions League date at home to Manchester City, a match in which Morata stressed he and his team-mates would be gunning for three more points and qualification to the knockout stages.

“We were put in a tough group as Sevilla won the Europa League, the Citizens are a top European team and Borussia play extremely well. So far we’re better placed than we were at this point last season when we weren’t so close to qualifying.

“We’ve still two very important matches coming up and we need to win. City at home will be yet another special night of Champions League football in front of our fans. They’re one of the best sides in Europe and so we’ll have to be at our best to beat them.”
