Gigi Buffon described Juventus’ Champions League final defeat to Real Madrid as a “massive disappointment” following the final whistle in Cardiff on Saturday night.
Buffon admitted that the result was all the more difficult to swallow for the Bianconeri after what was a scintillating first-half performance from Massimiliano Allegri's team.
“In the first half our approach was spot on and we had Real on the ropes,” said Buffon. “We put a lot of running in but we weren’t always clever with it and couldn’t take the lead.
“There’s not much to say about the second half. Their quality, class and winning mentality shone through. We didn’t get the rub of the green in terms of the finer details and we’re very disappointed, but you have to overcome all adversity if you’re going to win this trophy.”
Dani Alves echoed the skipper’s words in his own post-match reaction: “We allowed Real to create too much in the second half particularly since they scored with their only shot on target before the break. We did some good things over the 90 minutes but they simply played better than us.
“We have rightly been praised for our defence in the past but tonight was just not our night. At this level, your opponents can punish you at any given moment.”
